256MB High-Density Memory Upgrade
Silicon Graphics® Octane2™
The 256MB hardware upgrade for Silicon Graphics® Octane® or Octane2
consists of two interleaved 128MB DIMMs. Each 128MB DIMM is configured
as 16Mx72 bits (64 bits of data and 8 bits for error code correction,
also known as ECC). The DIMMs use four-bank SDRAM technology and can
only be paired with another 128MB DIMMs using four-bank SDRAMs. The
cycle time of the SDRAMs is 15 nanoseconds with an access time of 9.5
nanoseconds (maximum). The 256MB upgrade kit will occupy one of the four
memory banks. For new Octane R12000™ and R14000A™
microprocessor-based systems only.
512MB High-Density Memory Upgrade

The 512MB hardware upgrade for Octane or Octane2 consists of two
interleaved 256MB DIMMs. Each 256MB DIMM is configured as 32Mx72 bits
(64 bits of data and 8 bits for error code correction, also known as ECC).
The DIMMs use four-bank SDRAM technology and can only be paired with
another 256MB DIMMs using four-bank SDRAMs. The cycle time of the SDRAMs
is 15 nanoseconds with an access time of 9.5 nanoseconds (maximum). The
512MB upgrade kit will occupy one of the four memory banks. For new
Octane R12000 and R14000A microprocessor-based systems only.

interleaved 256MB DIMMs. Each 256MB DIMM is configured as 16Mx72 bits

The DIMMs use two-bank DDR SDRAM technology and can only be paired with
another 256MB DIMMs using two-bank DDR SDRAMs.

interleaved 512MB DIMMs. Each 512MB DIMM is configured as 64Mx72 bits
(64 bits of data and 8 bits for error code correction, also known as ECC).
The DIMMs use four-bank SDRAM technology and can only be paired with
another 512MB DIMMs using four-bank SDRAMs. The 1GB upgrade kit will
occupy one of the four memory banks. For new Octane R12000 and R14000A
microprocessor-based systems only.

The 2GB hardware upgrade for Silicon Graphics Fuel consists of two
interleaved 1GB DIMMs. Each 1GB DIMM is configured as 64Mx72 bits (64
bits of data and 8 bits for error code correction, also known as ECC).
The DIMMs use two-bank DDR SDRAM technology and can only be paired with
another 1GB DIMMs using two-bank DDR SDRAMs.

The 2GB hardware upgrade for Octane or Octane2 consists of two
interleaved 1GB DIMMs. Each 1GB DIMM is configured as 128Mx72 bits (64
bits of data and 8 bits for error code correction, also known as ECC).
The DIMMs use four-bank SDRAM technology and can only be paired with
another 1GB DIMMs using four-bank SDRAMs. The cycle time of the SDRAMs
is 10 nanoseconds with an access time of six nanoseconds (maximum). The
2GB upgrade kit will occupy one of the four memory banks. This allows
Octane to achieve a maximum memory capacity of 8GB. For new Octane
R12000 and R14000A microprocessor-based systems only.
Note: Customers must have the IP30 rev F motherboard to use this part. All currently shipping R12000 and R14000A processor-based Octane systems have the correct motherboard. IRIX® 6.5.6 or higher is required for the 2GB memory modules.
